Revelation Chapter 13 Verse 16 to 18
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

The Origin of 666
The Babylonians honored gods who were linked to the sun, moon, planets, and stars.
In this worship system, there were 36 primary gods. The sun god held the highest importance because they believed he was the father of all the other gods, making him the most significant. They thought that numbers had power over the gods they worshiped, so they gave their gods numbers so that the numbers could control them. To do this, they counted their gods and gave each of the 36 smaller supreme gods a number that went in order. They then added up all of these numbers, from 1 to 36, and gave the result to the sun god.
The calculation is simply this:
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 + 10 + 11 + 12 + 13 + 14 + 15 + 16 + 17 + 18 + 19 + 20 + 21 + 22 + 23 + 24 + 25 + 26 + 27 + 28 + 29 + 30 + 31 + 32 + 33 + 34 + 35 + 36 = 666
Over the course of several centuries, the city of Pergamum remained the location where the Babylonian priests and their direct descendants continued to impart knowledge regarding Babylon's religious customs.
At some point in time, not too long after this, the priests who were still instructing the Babylonian religious rituals recognized their opportunity and traveled to Rome. As a result of the Romans' frequent adoption of the religious traditions of other cultures, the Roman empire was able to endure for a significantly longer period of time.
In a short amount of time, Rome was rife with Babylonian religious doctrines and practices. At some point in time, it grew so widespread that people began to refer to Rome as the "New Babylon." Additionally, early Christians used the term Babylon as a covert code word for the city to evade persecution from the pagan power. We see that Peter referred to Rome as Babylon.
1 Peter 5:13 - "The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son."
When the Roman Catholic Church came into being, the rituals and doctrines of the Babylonian religion were immediately incorporated into the Church.
As a result, the Catholic Church has become a symbol of Babylon, which is why the emblem of the number 666 is associated with the head of this power. It was also recognized a long time ago that other papal titles, such as "Vicarius Filii Dei," which means "Vicar of Christ" or "substitute for Christ," are synonymous with Antichrist, which means "assuming the power of God on earth." This adds up to 666 in Latin and Roman numerals.

The beast is at war against God. Therefore, let us first discuss what God's mark of authority is.
What is God’s mark, or symbol, of authority?
Ezekiel 20:12 - "Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them."
Exodus 31:17 - "It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed."
As a demonstration of His ability to create and sanctify us (convert and make us holy), God is stating that He gave us His Sabbath as a sign of His authority over the universe. The words, "seal," "sign," "mark," and "token" are used interchangeably throughout the Bible. The Sabbath, God's sign, symbolizes the sacred power He possesses to rule as Creator and Savior. Hebrews 10:16 states that Revelation 7:1–3 will inscribe it on the foreheads (minds) of His people. This will indicate that He owns them and their character is His. Hebrews 4:4–10 demonstrates this by stating that when we enter His rest (get salvation), we must observe His seventh-day Sabbath as a symbol, or mark, of salvation. When a person truly observes the Sabbath, it is a sign that they have given their life to Jesus Christ and are willing to follow Jesus wherever He may take them. Given that the holy Sabbath day is the symbol, or mark, of God's authority and might, it is reasonable to assume that the symbol, or mark, of God's adversary, the beast, may also involve a "holy" day.
What does the papacy say is her symbol, or mark, of authority?
The Roman Catholic Church has long proclaimed, "Sunday is our mark or authority ... the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact" (Catholic Record of London, Ontario, September 1, 1923).

Revelation 13:16 says people will receive the mark of the beast in the forehead or in the hand. What does this mean?
Hebrews 10:16 - "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them."
Therefore, the forehead is a representation of the mind. Observing Sunday as a holy day will leave a mark on the individual's forehead.
If a person works on God's holy Sabbath or adheres to Sunday laws for practical reasons (such as employment, family, or other factors), their hand will bear a mark.
Nobody will not be able to see the sign or symbol that represents either God or the beast. In essence, you will brand yourself by being willing to accept either the mark of God, which is the Sabbath, or the mark of the beast, which is Sunday. God is aware of who possesses which mark, even though it is not apparent to human beings (2 Timothy 2:19).
Do people who worship on Sunday as a holy day have the mark of the beast now?
Absolutely not! Until the law forces Sunday worship, no one will bear the mark of the beast. At that time, those who decide to follow the false teachings of the beast and worship on Sunday (the beast’s counterfeit holy day) will receive his mark. Those who follow Jesus and obey His truth will keep His Sabbath day holy and receive His mark. Those who expect to refuse the beast’s mark in the future must step under Jesus’ Sabbath banner now. His power is available to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32). Without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
With Him, all things are possible (Mark 10:27).
